The Venice Carnival is a captivating extravaganza that transcends time, blending centuries-old tradition with modern-day revelry. Against the backdrop of Venice's enchanting canals and ornate palazzos, the carnival emerges as a dynamic tableau, alive with opulence, music, and masked mystique.

In that pursuit I've have come to realise that Venice is not just a destination; it's a state of mind, where time seems to bend and weave like the intricate reflections on its placid waters.

A conscious decision to work exclusively in black and white eliminates the potential distractions from the often vibrant hues of costumes, masks, and surroundings while presenting them in a nuanced and timeless manner.
Held annually in the weeks leading up to the religious period of Lent, the carnival coincides with late winter and early spring, when Venice's iconic canals and narrow streets are often veiled in fog. This mist, that evolves from the lagoon waters, takes on the role of a tacit performer gracing the carnival stage. It becomes an intrinsic part of the cityscape, blending with the elaborately costumed figures and iconic landmarks.
Gentle, diffused light emanating from lampposts and windows pierces the mist, creating an ethereal ambiance of drama and mystery. Muffled sounds of laughter and music intertwine with the soft splashes of oars as gondolas glide gracefully through the fog-filled canals imparting a fleeting beauty and an otherworldly charm.
